SEVEN COMMON MISCONCEPTIONS ABOUT GRACE II

#Misconception Two: I can earn the Grace of God

Grace is a gift and no one ever earns a gift; it is freely given. Grace can be likened to an all-purpose gift that contains everything we need to make our journey here on earth fruitful and productive. You can find healing, success; love etc. in the grace of God.

Did you know that every man is born a sinner? Did you also know that it’s not what you do that makes you a sinner but that you do the things you do because you are a sinner? This means that every one of us is born with the nature of sin and it’s this nature that makes us sin; you will always do your nature.

Just like you did not earn the nature of sin, you cannot also earn the grace of God. Here’s what Paul said in Romans 5:15, “But the free gift is not like the offense. For if by one man’s offense many died, much more the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one Man, Jesus Christ abounded to many.

According to Ephesians 2:8-9, we are saved by grace through faith and that not of ourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. If grace can be earned, then it is no longer grace and its definition would totally change.

Grace remains unmerited favour and can never be earned. If you can earn grace, then you will be in the right position to boast before God. God doesn’t want any man to boast before Him and that’s why He lavishes His grace on us freely.
